Abstract

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is one of the most important food crops worldwide and plays a significant role in ensuring food security. Its productivity depends on several factors, including planting date, variety characteristics, soil fertility, temperature, moisture availability, and crop management practices. This article examines the importance of planting potatoes at different times of the year, focusing on early, second-crop, and late-season cultivation. Particular attention is given to the relationship between planting dates and crop growth, tuber formation, yield, and product quality. The article also discusses the importance of selecting healthy seed tubers, maintaining soil fertility, applying balanced fertilizers, managing irrigation efficiently, and protecting plants against pests and diseases. Research findings indicate that the optimal planting date varies according to local climatic conditions, cultivar maturity, and water availability. Therefore, adapting planting schedules to regional conditions and applying scientifically based agricultural practices are essential for improving potato productivity, conserving water resources, and ensuring sustainable crop production.
